Katy Perry: Explains Very Conservative, Religious Upbringing

By Kia Makarechi / The Huffington Post
Though she's now an almost archetypical pop star, Katy Perry was once a young girl growing up in a very religious family.

"Being a kid in my household consisted of going to a lot of church activities," Perry says in a new clip from "Part of Me." "My upbringing was Pentecostal Christianity."

The singer's parents are widely known for being extremely devout. As Perry's sister Angela Hudson explains in the clip below, they were actually traveling ministers. Perry signed to Christian music label Red Hill when she was 15 and had a go of being a Christian rock singer. Obviously, that didn't stick.

In recent years, Perry has continued to find a stronger voice. Once told not to reveal the origins of her songs, she's now debuting an entire feature-length 3-D film on her life story.

Watch the clip below to find out what growing up Pentecostal was like, and what movies her parents did let her watch.

Katy Perry's "Part Of Me" movie is shimmying into theaters on July 5, but fast-moving fans will see it three days earlier if they follow Paramount's #KP3D Movie Sneak hashtag on Twitter. For more information, head over to Moviefone.
